Formed by songwriters and vocalists sisters Jahan and Yasmine Yousaf with producer Kris "Rain Man" Trindl when the trio met at Glenbrook North High School, Krewella’s music is a mix of dubstep and electro house, incorporating a wide variety of other electronic dance music styles. 2011 Monstercat signed Krewella. In June 2012, Krewella released their first EP “Play Hard,” which shot to the top of the Billboard’s Dance Radio Airplay chart. After headlining various EDM festivals around the world, including Ultra Music Festival, Sunburn Festival and Stereosonic, Krewella earned the 2012 International Dance Music Award for "Best Breakthrough Artist.”
After Trindl left the band in 2014, the sisters continued on undeterred, releasing one album after another and gathering greater success as they went, reaching no. 2 on the Billboard Top Dance/Electronic Albums chart and selling 3,000 copies in the first week of release of their 2016 album, “Ammunition”.
