The first incarnation of the band was formed in 2002, as "Anatomy of a Ghost", the project of John Gourley and Zach Carothers. Not finding a great deal of success in these early years, "Anatomy Of A Ghost," disbanded, but re-formed in 2004 under the name of "Portugal. The Man”. They began to record in earnest, were signed to Fearless Records. and two years later released their debut album "Waiter: 'You Vultures!”
In 2007, they released their sophomore album, “Church Mouth” and began to tour extensively round the US, continuing to release albums as they went and gradually gain a bigger and bigger fanbase by playing big music events such as Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival and St Jerome's Laneway Festival. Now signed to a major label with seven albums under their belt, Portugal. The Man are on tour with their 8th, the recently released “Woodstock”. "Feel It Still,” the second single released from the album after the incredible first single “Noise Pollution”, hit the top of the Billboard Adult Alternative Songs chart, becoming the band's first number one on the chart!
