Peter Hook & The Light are gearing up for an epic world tour in 2024! The band is bringing the iconic 'Substance' albums from both Joy Division and New Order to life on stage. The mastermind behind New Order and Joy Division - Peter Hook - and his band are set to hit the road from May onwards. They’re taking their tour to New Zealand, Australia, North America, the UK, and Ireland.
“It still amazes me how enjoyable it is to play the ‘Substance’ LPs,” Hook said in a press statement. “The contrast between Joy Division and New Order is very apparent but both complement each other very well. My only frustration is not being able to play more of our records each night. I am totally looking forward to the next phase. So, let’s enjoy some Substance and get ready for the future. Lots of love, Hooky.”
This extensive tour announcement comes on the heels of their monumental London concert at the Eventim Apollo, where they performed the 'Substance' albums in their entirety - marking a significant milestone for the band. The 'Substance' albums, released in 1988 for Joy Division and 1987 for New Order, encapsulate the essence of both bands. Peter Hook's annual tradition of revisiting and performing albums from Joy Division and New Order has now led to this grand culmination with the 'Substance' compilations.
Peter Hook is the co-founder of both Joy Division and New Order. Following the tragic death of Joy Division's vocalist Ian Curtis in 1980, the band dissolved. This paved the way for the evolution into the dance music-infused rock band, New Order. However, in 2007, New Order faced its own dissolution as Peter Hook and Bernard Sumner, co-founders of both bands, announced the end of their collaboration. Undeterred, Peter Hook embarked on a new musical journey and, in 2010, founded Peter Hook and The Light - featuring his son Jack Bates, Andy Poole, and Paul Kehoe.
The band made a significant entrance onto the music scene with their debut EP, "1102|2011," released a year after its formation. This EP not only showcased four remarkable Joy Division covers but also included a reworked version of "Pictures In My Mind." Peter Hook and The Light have become renowned for their captivating live performances, often including albums from both Joy Division and New Order in their setlists. The current lineup comprises Peter Hook, Jack Bates, Paul Kehoe, David Potts, and Martin Rebelski.
